Know first who you are, and then adorn yourself accordingly
Some wise words, translated from the ancient Greek philosopher, Epictetus. So what does that mean to you?
Take a moment to think about some things you know about yourself… it could be, how you like to spend your time; do you find yourself to be extroverted or introverted; colors that attract you.
Think along the lines of movie role models. Men: are you a Clark Kent type or do you lean more towards Indiana Jones or even James Bond? Women: are you a Bridget Jones or Lara Croft or more Lady Mary from Downtown Abbey.
And of course, none of these may apply, because as Oscar Wilde purportedly said,
Be yourself, everyone else is taken.
Admiring someone else can give you a starting point for developing characteristics that you would like to embody but remember you are unique and no one else is quite like you.
It is important to really understand yourself in order to convey your essence to someone. In many situations, having a connection to yourself will enable you to share with others so they will know you and like you.
This is not an egotistical proposition. You will have many opportunities to learn about others… this is a prompt to get you to tune in to yourself and how you can express the real you without words when you are out in the world.
And this is the essence of Dressing for YES—finding and expressing your uniqueness through your wardrobe and styling choices.
